In April, several Math students participated in the Northern California Undergraduate Mathematics Conference, held at California State University, Chico. Undergraduate students and faculty from northern California and southern Oregon universities, colleges and community colleges were invited to showcase their achievements, thus giving aspiring mathematicians an opportunity to present their work in a supportive environment.
The conference included student presentations, a career panel discussion, a poster session, a game/puzzle room, a “best math joke” competition, and other activities.
Dr. Kemble Yates led a contingent of more then ten students to the conference. Impressively, eight of the 18 presentations at the conference were made by SOU students. Representing the Math department were: Drusilla Hebert, Matthew Keeling, Jem Kloor, Evan Lasley, Corey Metcalfe, Sage Shaw, Elizabeth Wallace and Rosemary Wall.
