The Museum will feature noted New Jersey artist Willie Cole with Willie Cole: Illuminations and Transformations which will include From Water to Light, an installation made from recycled water bottles, and additional sculptures. Also showing will be The Traveler and the Housewife: Deluxe Edition, drawings and vessels created by Daniel Duford during his artist residency at SOU, and Black Manifold, a program of short videos curated by Avantika Bawa and Greg Minissale. Wine generously donated and poured by Abacela Winery.

The Oregon Arts Commission announced the award of $9,700 funded by The Ford Family Foundation’s Art Acquisition Program to the Schneider Museum of Art. The Art Acquisition Fund, managed by the Arts Commission, helps visual arts institutions with publicly accessible collections acquire seminal works by Oregon visual artists. The effort preserves public access to great works and supports the artists and the institutions that sustain their work. Continue reading
Cadet Trinity Castner receives Warrior Ethos award
JOINT BASE LEWIS MCCHORD, Wash. – Approximately 897 Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Cadets from the 11th and 12th Regiments graduated from the 2013 Leader Development and Assessment Course August 1 during a short graduation and commissioning ceremony at Watkins Field on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. As part of the ceremony, 9 Cadets from the 11thReg. and 7 Cadets from the 12th Reg. were sworn in and pinned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army. Continue reading

In April, several Math students participated in the Northern California Undergraduate Mathematics Conference, held at California State University, Chico. Undergraduate students and faculty from northern California and southern Oregon universities, colleges and community colleges were invited to showcase their achievements, thus giving aspiring mathematicians an opportunity to present their work in a supportive environment.
The conference included student presentations, a career panel discussion, a poster session, a game/puzzle room, a “best math joke” competition, and other activities.
Dr. Kemble Yates led a contingent of more then ten students to the conference. Impressively, eight of the 18 presentations at the conference were made by SOU students. Representing the Math department were: Drusilla Hebert, Matthew Keeling, Jem Kloor, Evan Lasley, Corey Metcalfe, Sage Shaw, Elizabeth Wallace and Rosemary Wall.
The Sociology Program is holding the annual induction ceremony for the Alpha Kappa Delta International Honor Society on Monday, April 29 beginning at 7:00pm in the Meese Room, Hannon Library. Alpha Kappa Delta is a non-secret, democratic organization founded in 1920 by Dr. Emory S. Bogardus. It is dedicated to encouraging and stimulating scholarship while promoting the scientific study and advancement of sociology. The Schneider Museum of Art has been awarded a $36,000 grant from the Ford Family Foundation’s Visual Arts Program to implement the Southern Oregon Site (ART) Project.Working in concert with the Department of Art, the SMA will invite six mid-career Oregon artists to create new work, made in response to ‘site’, which will be shown in 6 one-person museum gallery (or outside courtyard) shows between September 2013 and June 2014.
